Weaving Guide *Credit to Vapidity

Post  Kuro on 30/03/12, 11:55 pm

Note* This is an old guide made by Vapidity back in 2009. This was transferred from our old forum. Vapidity is no longer playing Mabinogi, but I hope this guide may still help newer players.

Doing this for the sake of getting my mind off other things; Also because I'm bored. :)

1. Introduction and Obtaining the Skill

-Weaving is long and boring, but the AP/Dex ratio is awesome. For the sake of making weaving even a little easier for you, I'm posting this guide, using mostly what I had to go through for weaving.

-To learn the weaving skill, talk to Malcolm in the general shop of Tir Chonaill about ‘skills.’ He will give you a quest where you must equip a gathering knife, shear a sheep 5 times, and bring back 5 wool. Complete this quest and you will automatically learn the weaving skill.

2. List of Things that can be Weaved

3. Mondays, Production Parties, and Rain

-As you should already know, Mabinogi gets different effects each day of the week. For weaving, Monday will be the most important day for you. During Mondays, the success rates and quality of production from life skills increases.

-Production parties in mabinogi will be especially helpful to your weaving. When you join a party, the people in that party will increase your weaving success rates depending on their weaving rank.

-Rain in mabinogi also increases the success rate of production.

-By taking advantage of these things, you can make your weaving experience go by faster. When you are required to weave things with a low success rate, use Mondays, production parties, and rain.

4. Sheep, Spiders and Where to Find Them

-Sheep have wool, which you can weave into thick thread balls. Equip any bladed weapon or gathering knife to be able to shear sheep.

-Spiders produce cobweb, which you pick up to weave into thin thread balls.

You can find sheep/spiders at the locations shown on these maps:

Tir Chonaill:

Emain Macha:

Note: You can also find sheep near Qilla Base Camp in Iria, but it’s not recommended to weave in Iria.

5. Gathering Knife:

-An upgraded gathering knife will be very useful to you from beginning to end. Buy or make one as soon as possible.

-You will modify your gathering knives at either Deian or Granites. Deian is located at the grassland in Tir and Granites is located at Filia, in Iria.

For the upgrades, there are a few ways that you can go:

Fastest:
1. Hilt Polishing: Increases shearing speed. (12 proficiency/600 gold/Upgrade at Deian or Granites)
2. Hilt Polishing
3. Hilt Polishing
4. Hilt Polishing
5. Blade Polishing: Greatly increases shearing speed (50 proficiency/7200 gold/Upgrade at Deian or Granites)
Total: 98 proficiency and 9600 gold

Recommended:
1. Hilt Polishing
2. Hilt Polishing
3. Hilt Polishing
4. Hilt Polishing
5. *Granites' Gathering Knife Upgrade: Gives a 40% chance of obtaining an extra wool (55 proficiency/6800 gold)
Total: 103 proficiency and 9200 gold

*If you are giant allied, use 'Deian's Gathering Knife Upgrade' (60 proficiency/5800 gold)

Note: You can replace the first upgrade of either of these sequences with 'Hilt Change' for the +10 durability if you want, but I prefer being able to shear sheep faster.

6. Spider Farm and Stuck Sheep:

-The purpose of a spider farm is to collect cobwebs faster. Although you may think it a hassle to make a spider farm, it is definitely worth the time to make.

White spiders have a certain agro system that you can take advantage of to make the farm. When you are near white spiders, TWO of them will be “alert” to you and follow you. By luring these spiders around a tree or prop, you can make your farm.

The easiest way to make a spider farm requires you to have a mount:

1. Choose an area near the spiders that you will make into your farm.
2. Summon a mount.
3. Make sure at least one spider agros you and another agros your mount.
4. Get on your mount and get off. (This will allow you to have two more spiders alert you.)
5. Repeat step 4 for each of the spiders in the area.
6. Lure them around a tree or prop and unsummon your mount.
7. When you have to weave the cobweb, have one of your pets rest near the spiders and stay there. This will make sure that the number of spiders doesn’t reset back down to 5.
8. There will definitely be times where someone will come to kill your spider farm. Don’t rage or do anything stupid. Just make another one.

Note: Some spiders may be too far from your farm to lure. You should kill these spiders until they spawn near your farm.

Because this is difficult to explain, I’ll probably try and post a video of this sometime in the near future.

-When you shear sheep, you’ll notice they’re always moving around, making it harder for you to shear. By getting these sheep stuck around a prop, you can prevent their movement. To do this, you must have a wolf pet.

1. Log onto your wolf pet.
2. Stay near a sheep until it alerts you.
3. Each sheep will run a different direction when you run near them. Figure out the sheep’s pattern and force it around a prop.
4. Relog into the same channel.
5. Repeat steps 2~4.

7. Part Time Jobs

-Eventually, you will need to make leather straps to rank up weaving. Luckily, Walter at the Dunbarton General Shop gives part time jobs that will allow you to make these straps easier. His part time job starts at 7:00 am and ends at 7:00 pm. The reason why you will depend on him is because he gives 30 leathers at a time.

0~51 part time jobs completed: Cheap Leather/Braids
52~101 part time jobs completed: Common and Fine Leather/Tough String/Braids
102+ part time jobs complete: Finest Leather/Braids

-If Walter does not give you the leather part time job, you can change to another channel to try to get the job you want. However, if Walter offers you a braid ptj in one channel, there will not be a leather ptj in any other channel.

Note: You may want to do Simon’s part time job after Walter’s. One of the rewards for his jobs can be a stack of thick thread, which you will need.

Congrats on getting rank 1 weaving.

9. Extra Tips

-Sheep pets, if you have them, can be useful for your weaving. As you shear them, their mp decreases until 0, where they will stop producing wool. As it is a pet, you can take advantage of this.
If you have a sheep pet, you can feed it mana elixirs or mp potions to continuously shear it.
If your friend has a sheep pet and can log onto it, you can shear it on one of the mana tunnels in Iria. These mana tunnels allow you to recover mp very fast from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Tunnel does not recover its mp.(Tiny)

-When you are required to cut leathers for your weaving, you will most likely be camping Walter for his part time jobs. However, this is not limited to just one character. You can bring any of your characters to do his part time job. When you receive a leather job on your mule, you can deposit these leathers in the bank and have your weaving character take them. This requires you to have extra storage service though.

-Emain is the best place to get wool and cobweb. There are less people, which means less chance of your spider farm being taken out. Also, there is usually at least one channel in emain with stuck sheep, when you feel too lazy to make one yourself, or don’t have a wolf pet.

-Use weaving gloves. Buy these from Nora near the Inn of Tir Chonaill, or from Galvin, who is near the observatory in Emain.

-If you have money to spare, you can buy thick and thin thread from shops. This will speed up your weaving considerably, but is also expensive at the same time.

10. Whatever

-This guide is mostly common sense, but I hope you got something out of it, if you actually did read this. :P

P.S.: Just want to say spellcheck is the best, because my grammar and stuff suck :)
